The Alan Parsons Project released eleven studio albums in its 15-year career (the twelfth, The Sicilian Defence, was originally recorded in 1979 and released in 2014), including the successful I Robot and Eye in the Sky. Almost all the songs on the Project’s albums are credited to “Woolfson/Parsons”.

A songwriter by profession, Woolfson was also a composer, a pianist, and a singer. Parsons was an audio engineer and producer by profession, but also a musician and a composer. They were accompanied by a varying number of session musicians and some relatively consistent band members such as guitarist Ian Bairnson, arranger Andrew Powell, bassist and vocalist David Paton, drummer Stuart Elliott, and vocalists Lenny Zakatek and Chris Rainbow. After Gino had a huge single with "Living Inside Myself", Clive insisted that he record the song, "Even The Nights Are Better" (later forced onto Air Supply) and when Gino said no way, Clive shelved his second ARISTA album called "Twisted Heart".The Alan Parsons Project was a British rock band active between 19, whose core membership consisted of Alan Parsons and Eric Woolfson. Gino Vannelli had to put his entire career on hold for a few years, thanks to Clive and ARISTA. Thank GOD that they didn't use it, because that horn section just didn't work on that particular song! Of course now, when I listen to the version that was originally released, I swear that I can hear the bleed through of that brass section, that was originally to be used, but it's probably just my mind playing tricks on me?Īs for the "Sicilian Defence" album., sure I'd love to hear it, as GOD only knows how many projects Clive Davis and ARISTA turned away, just because they weren't "his" idea of what an artist on his label, should be releasing. horn arrangement, which would run over the long fade out of the song.

Alan & Eric's original idea for the ending of this beautiful song (demonstrated in this demo), was to add this horrible brass section, playing a very usual type of heavily orchestrated A.P.P.

tracks, "If I Could Change Your Mind" and upon hearing it for the first time, when this was reissued, how it nearly ruined my love of this song. I'm listening to it right now and all that it is, is three minutes of Eric playing the piano, sounding like he is just presenting an idea for a future work in progress, not essential at all! Until I pulled this out this morning, I almost forgot that this same CD has a bonus track of what they call the "rough demo" of one of my favorite A.P.P. Gino spent almost all of his money trying to get out of his deal with ARISTA and to buy back his master tapes of the unreleased album, which to this day, outside of a lone single and picture sleeve, it has never been released!Ĭlick to expand. The only one that I'm aware of is the bonus track called "Elsie's Theme", which appeared on the remaster of "Eve". After Gino had a huge single with "Living Inside Myself", Clive insisted that he record the song, "Even The Nights Are Better" (later forced onto Air Supply) and when Gino said no way, Clive shelved his second ARISTA album called "Twisted Heart". Alan was the "famous" engineer and he had connections, but, I always felt that it was Eric that was the key person in the "project"! The only way that I'm re-buying the entire Parsons Project catalog, is if they finally release it in 5.1, as was rumored to be in the works by Alan himself, years ago! I've got the MFSL and original West Germany CD pressings and they are as good as I'll ever need.Īs for the "Sicilian Defence" album., sure I'd love to hear it, as GOD only knows how many projects Clive Davis and ARISTA turned away, just because they weren't "his" idea of what an artist on his label, should be releasing. I love The Alan Parsons Project and I was truly sick the day when Eric Woolfson died, even though I knew that he was long gone from the "project".
